Beginners Course
We hold regular six week beginners courses throughout the year. The courses are very popular and are
taught by our helpful, experienced coaches. On completion of the course you may join the club and then
choose to continue shooting with us in the morning session or switch to the afternoon session with our
more experienced archers. We are a very friendly, social club and we welcome all ages and ability.
Dates
Start dates for 2007 are
7th July, 1st September & 3rd November
Places fill very quickly but we occasionally have cancellations so please do get in touch.
Times
The beginners courses take place during our regular Saturday morning session at the Royal Free
Recreation club in Hampstead. The lesson lasts from 11 to 1pm, this includes initial setting up
time (which we all help with). We're generally up and shooting by 11.30 at the latest.
Who can attend our beginners course?
The course is limited to
twelve people and we have a very mixed intake which operates on a first
come-first served basis.
Junior archers can start with us from age 10 onwards. Juniors must have a designated responsible
adult with them and we encourage parents or guardians to complete the course alongside the junior
(as it's much more fun that way).
Duration
The course is structured over six weeks. We strongly encourage you to complete all 6 lessons during
the scheduled course - the first three sessions are compulsory. If you miss any of the first three
weeks of the course we will require you to re-enrol on the next available course. Course fees are
non-refundable.
We require beginners to have shot with the club a minimum of six times before joining. If any of the last 3
sessions are missed you will need to come and shoot with us - and pay normal session fees - to make
up your shooting experience to 6 sessions. We allow you to shoot a maximum of 8 times with us
(including the beginners course) before we require that you join the club - this is necessary for our
insurance, see
Membership page.
Price
NOTE: All fees are subject to annual review and may change from the prices listed
The course costs £48 for six lessons. To guarantee a place on the course we ask for a non-refundable
deposit of £30. This covers the cost of the first three lessons. In order to continue on week 4 a
balancing payment of £18 must be paid.
N.B. The first three lessons are compulsory
- if any of these are missed we will require you to re-start the course at a future date when we
have space and pay a new deposit.
Equipment
We provide everything that you need to learn archery in the price of the course. After the course
we will, wherever possible, continue to provide you with a suitable training bow, arrows, finger tab and
arm bracer for a nominal fee of £1 per session. Most people are keen to buy their own equipment and
we can advise you with this.
The hall can be a bit cold in Winter so wrap up warm.
Not sure if its for you?
As well as our structured six week courses we also offer have-a-go sessions for those who aren't
sure about committing to a whole course. These also take place in the morning session (11 to 1pm) at
the Royal Free Recreation club in Hampstead and fall on the week between our scheduled beginners
courses.
The dates for next Beginner's Course 2007
7th July - 11th August
1st September - 6th October
3rd November - December 8th
Have a Go Days
16th June, 18th August & 20th October
The have-a-go days are designed for people unsure about committing to a full course, therefore if it goes
well we are more than happy to book you onto our next available course at the end of the day but we
won't take bookings for the same person for both a full course and a have-a-go day.
